I arrived in Portsmouth as a young man and a complete stranger to the area, worry not in stepped a wonderful man called Bill Downie who brought me in to his circle of friends and nade me most welcome. We went on to cement a fantastic friendship, countless times discussing any thing Scottish and in particular football which we shared a great love of. Ironically we supported the opposite teams of the great Glasgow divide and revelled in the others failure, many a wind up was had.
I cannot fail to mention the many run ups to Christmas where Auld Bill would bring me my Black Bun made by the wonderful lady who was Eva and the love of Bill's life. It was on Eva's sad passing that it was noticeable that there was a massive hole left in Bill's life and he never fully recovered in my opinion.
Auld Bill's passing has left a large space in my heart, however and with all that said I have great memories which I will treasure.
Rest in everlasting peace my Auld pal, although you are now at rest you will never ever be forgotten 🙏
